18th Century: Settlement in the area which would become High Point began in the 1750s. The majority of the early settlers were from Pennsylvania with many being of the Quaker persuasion.

19th Century: The intersection of the Plank Road and the North Carolina Railroad, with High Point being the highest elevation on the rail line, created a center of trade and transportation in the 1850s.

20th Century: Furniture and hosiery with their support industries were the products that made High Point a prosperous community.

21st Century: Today, High Point plays host to the International Home Furnishing Market, the Largest Trade show in the world, and the International Textile Market.
