The Benjamin Cleveland Chapter, NSDAR, welcomes you to our website!  We are located in the rolling foothill section of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the beautiful town of Shelby, North Carolina. Shelby is located 50 miles west of Charlotte and 75 miles east of Asheville and is the county seat of Cleveland County.  The area is rich in history and examples of historic preservation include the Old Cleveland County Courthouse, the Joshua Beam home and the Shelby City Park Carrousel, circa 1919, which was refurbished and reopened in 1998 and is the site for Shelby's annual Merry-Go-Round Festival. Historical figures include O. Max Gardner and Clyde R. Hoey who were the “Shelby Dynasty” governors and served in the first half of the 20th Century. Two higher education institutions are located nearby: Cleveland Community College and Gardner-Webb College.  The largest county fair in the state, the Cleveland County Fair, is held annually and is a celebration of the county’s agricultural heritage. The Benjamin Cleveland NSDAR chapter emulates the rich historical heritage of Cleveland County by being actively involved in historic preservation and promoting patriotic and educational activities and we invite you to visit our membership page.
