The sea captains began to refer to this area as
Brick House Landing. (Drawing at left is by chapter member, Betty Ann Burnham Glover.) |
| A small structure was erected on the waterfront of the Roanoke River in Plymouth, NC, to house ship's stores and supplies. The structure was broken into many times and eventually was reconstructed out of brick. |
| We are involved in many activities. We were a Korean War Commemorative Community. We participate in Constitution Week, Project Patriot, Good Citizens Awards, the American History Essay Contest, Junior ROTC Awards, History Teacher of the Year, Christmas gifts for Atwell Cottage at Crossnore School, Project Veteran, Veteran Patients, and helped with the WWII Memorial Project. |
| Our
meetings are held the second Thursday of each month except June, July, and
August. When not on an excursion, we meet at a local church parish
house in Plymouth at 2 PM. We always have a wonderful guest speaker
who speaks about local or military history or local organizations. Each December, we have an evening Christmas meeting and dinner with our HODARS (Husbands of DAR). |
