Our Name:
The chapter was named for Robert Rowan, a prominent military and civic leader in Cumberland County, and an early builder of Fayetteville, formerly known as Cross Creek.  He was author of the Cumberland County Resolutions, often called the “Liberty Point Resolutions,” which were adopted June 20, 1775.
Rowan was a major in the French and Indian War; sheriff of Cumberland County, 1770-78; member of the Provincial Congress that met at Hillsborough on August 21,1775, and at Halifax on November 12, 1776; member of the House of Commons, 1778-79 and again in 1785, and a colonel in the Revolution.
During 1972 the grave of Colonel Robert Rowan was moved to Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville.  The Chapter provides upkeep for the grave.
On November 16, 1993, a marker was placed at the gravesite of Colonel Rowan in Cross Creek Cemetery, Fayetteville.
