The original name was the Iredell Chapter.  This was changed to Fort Dobbs on December 1, 1908.  The chapter name was derived from the Fourth Creek meeting house, now the First Presbyterian Church.
The Fourth Creek Chapter and the Fort Dobbs Chapter merged formally on April 15, 2000.

CHAPTER NAME
Fort Dobbs Chapter was organized on April 29, 1908, by the first regent, Mrs. Leila McRae Thomas (Mrs. W.A.), who was assisted by Mrs. T.V. (Stonewall) Jackson of the Mecklenburg Chapter.  The history of the chapter and the Fort Dobbs site have been connected with the chapter's involvement in the many efforts to preserve and recognize the site.
Fort Dobbs Chapter has emphasized educational outreach in the Iredell-Statesville Schools as well as providing assistance to the DAR school, especially Crossnore and Tamassee.  Members continue to work for historic preservation and patriotic education.
The Fourth Creek Chapter was officially organized November 3, 1959, by the organizing regent, Mittie Hill Linney (Mrs. C.D.).
