Who Can Join the Daughters of the
American Revolution (DAR)?

DAR Library
DAR Library
Washington, D.C.

Any woman is eligible for membership who is at least eighteen years of age and can prove lineal blood-line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death as well as the Revolutionary War service of her patriot ancestor. Your ancestor may be either male or female. Examples of service include civil servant, provisional supplier, doctor, nurse, or military. You might be surprised to find that your ancestor gave aid to the patriots, so do some digging into your family history, get your documentation, and join your local chapter of the DAR.

Admission to membership in the DAR is either by invitation through a chapter in your state (or Unit Overseas). No chapter may discriminate against an applicant on the basis of race or creed. Additional membership information can be found on the National DAR website. Contact us for information about how our chapter can help you with the membership process.
