Service Projects

Our chapter participates in many service activities that promote education and patriotism.

DAR Schools

The chapter actively supports the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School (AL) and the four DAR supported schools: Crossnore Communities for Children (NC), Hillside School (MA), Hindman Settlement School (KY), and Berry College (GA). For more information, please see the National Society DAR Schools webpage.

Throughout the year, members also support the Crossnore Communities for Children school by giving a variety of items to the Blair Fraley Sales Store for resale. Items include new or gently used clothing, household furniture, books and miscellaneous items that are in good condition.

Service for Veterans

Our chapter supports veterans by supplying various comfort items for patients at the W. G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury and the Outpatient Clinic located in Charlotte. These items include personal hygiene items, handkerchiefs, denture supplies, western and mystery novels, magazines (within last three months), envelopes, writing paper, postage stamps, pens, pencils, sugar-free candies, hats, socks, slippers with non-skid soles, pajamas and robes, crossword puzzle books, puzzles, lap robes, bibs, small bags, and wheelchair utility bags.

Patriotism

Each May, the Major William Chronicle Chapter, NSDAR, lays a wreath at the Vietnam Memorial in Gastonia’s Lineberger Park and at the Gaston County Annual Memorial Day Program. In November, chapter members actively participate in the annual Gaston County Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony with many riding in the parade or participating in the ceremony.
