DAR Markers to the Signers of The Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence

General Thomas Polk - a marker placed on the monument at his grave, Old Settlers' Cemetery, Charlotte, NC.

Abraham Alexander and Hezekiah Alexander - markers at their graves, Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church.


Richard Barry, William Graham and John McKnitt Alexander - markers at their graves, Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
Matthew McClure - a tablet in the Church for him and for the above.

Henry Downes, Neill Morrison and John Flenniken - markers at their graves, Providence Presbyterian Church.

Robert Irwin - a marker at his grave, Steele Creek Presbyterian Church.


John Foard - a marker at his grave, Philadelphia Presbyterian Church.
Adam Alexander and John Queary - markers in above cemetery.  Also, a tablet placed in the Church for all three.

Rev. Hezekiah Balch, Zaccheus Wilson, Richard Harris, John Phifer, Benjamin Patton and David Reese - a tablet in Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church, Cabarrus County, NC.  David Reese is buried at the Old McClure Cemetery, NC

Ezra Alexander - a marker for him at his son's grave, Sharon Presbyterian Church.  He is buried in Polk Cemetery, Pineville, NC.

Major John Davidson - a marker at his grave, Rural Hill, Davidson Family Burying Ground.

Waightstill Avery - grave marked by Waightstill Avery Chapter, Brevard, NC at Quaker Meadows, Swan Pond Estate near Morganton, NC


These Graves Are Not Located or Marked

The following signers are honored at the site of the Courthouse on the south side of Trade Street at Alexander Street, Charlotte, NC, and at the site of Alexandriana, the home of John McKnitt Alexander in Mecklenburg County:

Charles Alexander died 28 Jan 1801 and is said to be buried in a family cemetery near Providence Presbyterian Church.


Ephraim Brevard, MD died in 1781 and is said to be buried in Settlers' Cemetery, Charlotte or at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, but no headstone exists.

James Harris died after 14 Oct 1778 and is said to be buried at Rocky River Presbyterian Church Cemetery, near the Cabarrus County line.

William Kennon lived in Granville County, NC and died 3 Oct 1804 in Rockingham County, NC, per NSDAR records.
