Welcome!
The Mecklenburg
Declaration of Independence Chapter was organized in 1912 in
Charlotte with thirty-five charter members. The name was chosen in
commemoration of the signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of
Independence on May 20, 1775, known locally as “Meck Dec Day.” Our
chapter has grown to over 120 members who meet on the second
Thursday of each month from September to May. Most of our meetings
feature a guest speaker, short business meeting, and light
refreshments.
In addition to our
regular monthly meetings, our chapter sponsors educational awards
and scholarships, supports Crossnore and Tamassee DAR schools, and
provides gifts to veterans receiving medical care at the Salisbury
VA Hospital. The primary focus of our chapter activities is the
support of the National Society’s mission to promote historic
preservation, education, and patriotism.
I hope you will
explore these pages to learn more about the “Meck Dec Chapter.”
Please feel free to
contact me or our
Registrar for more information. DAR is known for its
hospitality and we wish to extend that warm welcome to you!
