Independence Day
at the grave of signer Thomas Polk

Welcome!
The
Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence Chapter was organized in 1912
by descendants of the signers to perpetuate the memory of this great
document whose date is also noted on the North Carolina State
Flag. Since our inception, our chapter has grown to over 100
members and expanded to include Patriots from all colonies.
I
joined DAR out of the memory of my dear grandmother knowing little of
the organization, and have come to discover the impressive work of DAR
whose mission is to promote historic preservation, education, and
patriotism. Our chapter is comprised of accomplished women,
professionally and in their personal lives, who have and continue to
contribute to the Charlotte community to promote these ideals. We
work with our local schools, libraries, government, military, and
historical societies. Our members also just enjoy the common
interest in genealogy and come for the camaraderie during our meetings!
I
hope you will explore these pages that provide an overview of what we
fondly call the Meck Dec Chapter. Please feel free to contact me or our Registrar for more information.
DAR is known for its hospitality and we wish to extend that warm
welcome to you!
