Welcome to the Micajah Pettaway-Halifax Resolves Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR). Our chapter was formed in 1923 and is located in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. We serve Nash and Edgecombe counties. We are among the more than 100 chapters of the North Carolina Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Daughters of the American Revolution is a women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, patriotism and honoring our patriots of the Revolutionary War.

Our chapter members enjoy volunteer activities and are proud to make a difference in the lives of our community, state, and country. We support our veterans, promote conservation, and help with efforts of historic preservation. New members are a priority to us. If you are interested in becoming part of the DAR, please contact us — see the tab in the left menu. We will be glad to help you learn how to research your family history.

About Rocky Mount, North Carolina

Rocky Mount is situated in both Edgecombe and Nash Counties. The counties are separated by the Seaboard Railroad. Rocky Mount serves as a major terminal for the CSX Railroad with 20-25 operations out of Rocky Mount daily. The community began around the post office which was built at the falls of the Tar River on March 22, 1816. The name Rocky Mount undoubtedly derived from the rocky mound at the falls of the Tar River, which was also the site of one of the first cotton mills in North Carolina. Rocky Mount Mills was established in 1818 on the Tar River. Rocky Mount is home to North Carolina Wesleyan College, two community colleges, shopping, restaurants, and Nash UNC hospital.
