MEMBERSHIP
Over one-half century ago, the organizational meeting for this DAR chapter was held. Kate Ledbetter Gunter was the Chapter Organizing Regent. Three women who were at that meeting in December, 1951 are still members of the chapter. Among the guests present at the organizing meeting was the sister of Miss Gertrude Carraway, Past President General, NSDAR, from New Bern, North Carolina.
PRIVATE JOHN GRADY CHAPTER, NSDAR
The name of the first casualty of the Revolutionary War is remembered by the DAR chapter in Sanford. A monument has been erected to Private John Grady at Moore’s Creek Bridge Battleground (see main page.)

The meetings of the Private John Grady Chapter are held at 2 PM on the fourth Monday of each month from September through November, and January through May. Meetings  are held in homes of members or in the Suzanne Reeves Library on Hawkins Avenue in Sanford. This library is named for the mother of one of our current DAR members.  We observe the prescribed DAR ritual.      In recent years, membership has increased because of capable and energetic leadership guiding the members of Private John Grady Chapter to meet the stated goals of the national organization.
