Activities & Projects

Rachel Caldwell’s projects and activities are centered around the work of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s almost fifty committees, which are dedicated to the mission of preserving American history, promoting patriotism, and fostering education. Chapter members have been committed volunteers in our community for over eighty years. You can read about activities and projects through the first seventy-five years on the History page.

Historic Preservation

  • Support the preservation of the NSDAR buildings.
  • Support the DAR Museum for future acquisitions.
  • Support Preservation Greensboro and the Greensboro History Museum through chapter and individual memberships.

Promoting Patriotism

  • Observe Veterans and Memorial Days by taking part in flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies at six sites.
  • March in parades with our “Honor Vietnam Veterans” banner.
  • Award certificates for valor, service, and sacrifice.
  • Sponsor a Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony.
  • Participate in the celebration of the Anniversary of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.
  • Tell the story of North Carolina’s three signers of the Declaration of Independence at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park on Independence Day.
  • Serve as hostesses for General Greene’s birthday at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.
  • Portray Dolley Madison at the History Museum’s Dolley Madison tea.
  • Provide wreaths and participate in wreath laying ceremony for Wreaths Across America.
  • Host a reception for new citizens at a naturalization ceremony.

Education

  • Use James Madison six-foot cutout for photo-ops at schools for the Anniversary of the Bill of Rights.
  • Present Constitution Week programs to DAR chapters, schools, and other organizations.
  • Maintain historybelle.com Constitution Week website.
  • Co-sponsor a Bells Across America ceremony at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park on September 17 for Constitution Week.
  • Sponsor “The Big Tweet” with Greensboro College and Guilford County Schools for Constitution Week.
  • Sponsor American History Essay contests.
  • Sponsor ROTC awards in three high schools and one university.
  • Sponsor four DAR Good Citizens.
  • Support DAR schools.
  • Sponsor the Bugler Gillies Children of the American Revolution Chapter.
  • Create and mail booklets about events like the attack on Pearl Harbor.
