Activities & Projects

Rachel Caldwell’s projects and activities are centered around the work of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s almost fifty committees, which are dedicated to the mission of preserving American history, promoting patriotism, and fostering education. Chapter members have been committed volunteers in our community for over eighty years. You can read about activities and projects through the first seventy-five years on the History page.

Historic Preservation

  • Support the preservation of the NSDAR buildings.
  • Support the DAR Museum for future acquisitions.
  • Support Preservation Greensboro and the Greensboro History Museum through chapter and individual memberships.

Promoting Patriotism

  • Observe Veterans and Memorial Days by taking part in flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies in the local area.
  • Support Triad Honor Flights.
  • Support local veteran’s activities as well as Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics.
  • Sponsor a Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony each March.
  • Participate in the celebration of the Anniversary of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in March.
  • Participate in celebrating the three North Carolinians who signed the Declaration of Independence at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park on July 4 each year.
  • Provide wreaths and participate in wreath laying ceremony for Wreaths Across America.
  • Host receptions for new citizens at a naturalization ceremony.

Education

  • Support volunteers in local schools.
  • Participate in Read Across America in local elementary schools.
  • Use James Madison six-foot cutout for photo-ops at schools for the Anniversary of the Bill of Rights.
  • Present Constitution Week programs to schools, and other organizations.
  • Maintain historybelle.com Constitution Week website.
  • Co-sponsor a Bells Across America ceremony at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park on September 17 for Constitution Week.
  • Sponsor DAR American History essay contests in local schools.
  • Sponsor JROTC awards in three high schools.
  • Sponsor DAR Good Citizens awards.
  • Support DAR schools, especially the Crossnore Winston-Salem campus.
  • Sponsor the Bugler Gillies Children of the American Revolution Chapter.
