The Waightstill Avery Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was established in 1921 and named for Revolutionary War Patriot Waightstill Avery. We are a thriving women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Daughters are actively engaged in service activities within our community as well as state and national levels.

Like the town of Brevard located in Transylvania County, North Carolina, our chapter is growing rapidly. Many of our members are natives of North Carolina and the adjoining southern states, but others are relative newcomers to this Blue Ridge Mountains community. We have members that have moved here from Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, and Hawaii. We welcome membership inquiries from any woman eighteen years of age and older who believes she may be a descendant of an American patriot.

We welcome you to come learn more about our society as we “Celebrate America!”
