Yates Mill Chapter, NSDAR

Cary, North Carolina

The Yates Mill Chapter, NSDAR, was started in the summer of 2004 by twelve members. These women wanted to have a chapter that would meet in the evenings with a fun, relaxed, and enjoyable atmosphere. The chapter has grown to over 64 members, representing an active group that includes young mothers, career women, community volunteers, educators, and retirees with grandchildren. If your ancestor was a Revolutionary War patriot we invite you to come visit our group! Email our chapter for further information.

Historic Yates Mill

Our chapter name comes from the beautiful, historic park of Yates Mill located in Raleigh, NC. Yates Mill, built in 1756, served Wake County as a water-powered mill for more than 200 years. Of the 70 gristmills that once served Wake County, Yates Mill is the only one still in operating condition. More information is available at the Historic Yates Mill Park website.

Chapter Meetings

The ladies of the Yates Mill Chapter meet on the second Tuesday of every month, September through May, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Our programs focus on historical topics, genealogy, and volunteer efforts. We welcome visitors and prospective members.

Membership

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, or ancestors who contributed to the independence cause via donations of goods or support, is eligible for membership. Tracing your lineage is valuable because it preserves your family’s heritage. DAR volunteers are willing to provide guidance and assistance with your first step into the world of genealogy. You can find more information regarding membership in the DAR at the National Society site.

Web hyperlinks to non-DAR sites are not the responsibility of the NSDAR, the state organizations,
or individual DAR chapters.

What is NSDAR?

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. With more than 165,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organizations.
