DAR in Salute Parade

Veterans Day Salute! Event
  • 1960 — Played a significant role in Kinston’s bicentennial.
  • 1966 — Presented flag to the Caswell-Neuse State Historic Site.
  • 1971 — Presented a flag pole to Lenoir Community College on behalf of the chapter.
  • 1971 — Organized a Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) chapter, and then reorganized that C.A.R. chapter in 2005.
  • 1979 — Placed a Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) marker on the grave of James Davis, a Revolutionary soldier.
  • Purchased a coverlet as a gift to historic Harmony Hall.
  • 2001 — Celebrated the 75th anniversary of Moseley-Bright Chapter’s organization.
  • 2005 — Purchased more than 75 flag poles to be positioned at intervals along Kinston’s Queen Street, in memory of Martha M. Kienast, for use during patriotic and special events.
  • July 4, 2005 — Welcomed new American citizens — representing over a dozen countries of origin — and presented them with American flags during a naturalization ceremony.

Ongoing Activities

Chapter Projects

  • Continue to make numerous contributions to schools and libraries; annually sponsor high school Good Citizens in Lenoir and Greene counties, and the American History Essay contestants from local middle schools.
  • Annually present a Junior ROTC medal; observe Constitution Week; participate in the annual Veterans Day Salute! Event; collect donations for Ft. Bragg Fisher House, local schools, domestic violence safe house, food pantries, and veterans and active military organizations.
  • Raise money for the Moseley-Bright Chapter DAR Good Citizens Scholarship Fund.
  • Raise funds to repair and restore the 1929 Caswell Family Cemetery iron fence.
  • Donate to Kate Duncan Smith, Tamassee DAR School and other DAR-supported schools including Crossnore School in North Carolina. This support includes monetary donations and collection of ink cartridges, “Box Tops for Education”, and Campbell’s “Labels for Education”.
