Activities

The activities of the Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter, NSDAR, promote patriotism, preserve American history, and ensure America’s future through better education for children. The chapter sponsors activities in each area of focus including the following:

Historic preservation:

  • Support the National Society in the preservation of NSDAR buildings
  • Participate in local historic programs and events
  • Present Historic Preservation Recognition Awards to local volunteers

Promoting patriotism:

  • Support U.S. military active duty members and veterans by volunteering and giving donations to VA nursing homes, medical centers, and outreach programs
  • Participate in programs such as Operation Ballgown, Bean of Life, and National Day of Service
  • Award ROTC Bronze Medals, Silver Outstanding Cadet Medal certificates, and scholarships

  • Celebrate Constitution Week by visiting local schools
  • Participate in Bells Across America on September 17 to honor the signing of the Constitution
  • Deliver educational material to elementary schools and appear in colonial dress
  • Organize DAR Good Citizens Essay Contest for high school seniors
  • Support DAR’s Tamassee School bus program
  • Participate in Boxtops for Education program
  • Support literacy programs and award a General Education Development (GED) scholarship
