Each year our chapter awards a high school senior with outstanding qualities of good citizenship. The scholarship program is open to all high school seniors enrolled in public or private schools accredited by their state board of education.
Each year our chapter awards fifth graders who exhibit the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism with a certificate and medal.
Each year, our chapter awards fifth through eighth grade students the opportunity to comete in the American History Essay Contest. High school students in grades nine through twelve are elligible to participate in the Patriots of the American Revolution DAR Essay Contest.
The DAR awards a variety of scholarships through the National Society DAR.
Constitution Week is the commemoration of America’s most important document. It is celebrated annually during the week of September 17-23. Each year our chapter places a display in Braswell Memorial Library to educate the public about Constitution Week. We ring a bell, make announcements and promote the week on a local television program.
Our chapter supports the JROTC program in eleven local high schools. We include them in many of our celebrations and meetings. The Bronze DAR JROTC Medal is awarded to the outstanding JROTC cadet at each school every year.
Our chapter supports the Tar River Composite Squandron of the Civil Air Patrol by awarding Silver DAR Outstanding Cadet Medal to the outstanding new cadet each year.
Our chapter supports all veterans. We support a veteran's home for disabled veterans and have “adopted” veterans living in two local assisted living facilities.
Our chapter supports the students of Crossnore Community for Children. Professional cottage parents live in with the children for a 7 day on⁄7 day off rotation. We collect funds during our Christmas in July gathering and purchase needed gifts and educational supplies. We have purchased their weaving and participated in weaving classes.
Members support Wearths Across America by purchasing wreaths to be placed at veteran's graves at Christmas. We have had a member travel to Arlington National Cemetery to help place the wreaths in a respectful way.
