Publications

In the mid 1970s, one of our members thought that our chapter should begin publishing genealogical information. The first two books were Volumes I and II of Early Families of the North Carolina Counties of Rockingham and Stokes with Revolutionary Service. Due to the dedication of two of our members, Irene Webster and Linda Vernon, more than 28 different books were printed by the chapter. This was the beginning of more than 40 years of researching and publishing books of genealogical records. Even some of the members published books on their own about their families. The James Hunter Chapter, NSDAR, Publishing Committee has greatly increased the availability of the records for genealogical research for Rockingham and Stokes counties, North Carolina. Most of these books are spiral bound with a full name index. There are many types of books such as bible records, cemeteries, and census.

We use the proceeds from this project to purchase books for the National DAR Library as well as the Linda C. Vernon Genealogy Room of the Madison–Mayodan Public Library in Madison, North Carolina. These books are available for local research at the Madison–Mayodan Public Library and in other libraries of this area and beyond. At this time, there is no one available to do “lookups” in the books. For questions about these books and upcoming publications by the chapter, contact the chapter (see the menu on the left).
